The nearest town is Hardinsburg, Kentucky which is
about 11 to 12 miles from both properties and is the county seat of Breckinridge County,
which is well known for its great schools (see school links below). Hardinsburg has a hospital, supermarkets, fast
foods, hardware, auto parts, auto racing, etc. and home of Rough River Lake
Resort area. Hardinsburg is along State Highway 259 and US Highway 60,
about 70 miles south of Louisville, 70 miles north of Bowling Green, 40 miles
east of Owensboro and 30 minutes from Nolin Lake.
Annual events in Breckinridge County include the Irvington Railroad Festival,
Big Spring Down Home Day, the County Fair (Hardinsburg), Sacajawea Festival (Cloverport),
the Custer Annual Picnic, the Hardinsburg Hoedown Day and more.
There is a waterfowl refuge along the Ohio River, and a walking archery course is
available. Area golf courses include the Breckinridge County Community
Center 9-hole course and the Lafayette Golf Club at Green Farm Resort. Rough River Dam State Park is
near the dam creating a 4,860-acre lake. Rough River Dam SRP offers some
of the finest opportunities for fishing and water sports in the state.
The park includes a 40-room lodge and 17 cottages. There is a 167-seat
dining room, 2 conference rooms, swimming pool, gift shop and marina. There are
several miles of maintained roads in area, plus miles of old roads for
hiking and sightseeing. A self-guided demonstration area on tract 3
features habitat types, prairie grasses and wetlands. There is a
waterfowl refuge along the Ohio River, and a walking archery course is
available. Rabbit, quail, squirrel,
dove, raccoon, groundhog, deer, turkey and some waterfowl inhabit the
area. Yellowbank Wildlife Management Area offers steep to moderate sloping
woodlands, a hardwood forest and flat river bottom farmlands. Fishing in area ponds and a ramp on Yellowbank Creek provide access to
the Ohio River. The park is also served by a 3,200 ft. paved and lighted airstrip,
miniature golf course and a 9-hole golf course. The nearest large town is Elizabethtown, Kentucky
which is about 30 miles east. Elizabethtown has a large hospital. Elizabethtown, Kentucky is a
great place for shopping,
restaurants, supermarkets etc. and is neighbor to Ft. Knox's military base. The nearest large city is Louisville, Kentucky
(Jefferson County), home of the Kentucky Derby, for all the horse racing fans, which is northeast of Hardinsburg, Kentucky and a little over an hour drive. Louisville is home to a large hospital, endless shopping,
airport, businesses, restaurants etc. Owensboro (Daviess County) is the nearest
large city to the west. It also has endless shopping, businesses,
restaurants, etc. The nearest really large cities would be
Cincinnati, Ohio to the north; Knoxville, Tennessee to the south; Lexington
and Frankfort,
KY to the northeast.

Weather: The average warmest monthly
temperature is above 71.6 degrees. The highest recorded temperature was 104
degrees in 1999. The average coldest temperature is between 26.6 degrees and
64.4 degrees, with the lowest recorded temperature of -18 degrees in 1985.
